Data Protection Awareness

This half day course provides a comprehensive outline of the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) and provides organisations with clear and practical guidance on achieving and maintaining compliance with the Act.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for anyone working either on an employed or voluntary basis for all types of organisation including third sector organisations, charities, voluntary and community groups.

Objectives: On completion of this course, delegates will understand:

  • The eight principles of the DPA and be able to apply the principles to their own organisation
  • The Information Commissioner’s Code of Practice
  • The process involved in completing and updating an accurate notification
  • The definition of sensitive personal data
  • The requirements for fair and lawful processing
  • How to deal with subject access requests
  • The process for conducting internal data protection audits
  • How to deal with third parties particularly around disclosure of personal data
  • Specific guidance for Third Sector, Charitable, Voluntary and Community Services

Personal Safety and Lone Working Training

Using a variety of practical and theoretical activities the half-day session enables participants to establish the responsibilities of the individual and the organisation in ensuring the personal safety of all staff. Consideration will be given to risk assessments and communicating risk issues both within the organisation and to other agencies whilst retaining confidentiality, including the right to request disclosure of information from those using the service.

It will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to enable them to control the environment and ensure they possess all necessary information to ensure that they will leave with a raised awareness of the issues and how to avoid risky situations action plan to develop safe practices.

The course is suitable for anyone who works in a lone working environment either in the community, in an office context, or for those who manage lone workers including outreach workers, community development workers, support/advocacy workers, and teachers working in the community, those meeting or supporting service users in an office where they are alone and not in regular contact with other office users or those who transport service users alone.
