Following the success of our Mental Health & Well Being programme for unemployed people in Northumberland we are pleased to announce that the programme has been extended into 2016.
The programme delivered in partnership with Northumberland County Council Employability and Skills Team, aims to support unemployed individuals who have a mental health issue to reduce their barriers which have so far prevented them from entering employment and training.
Delivered over 12 sessions, the programme covers such topics as understanding Mental Health & Well-being, self awareness, coping strategies, preventing negative thought patterns, self esteem and planning for your future, etc. By the end of the programme each person will have their own action plan to help them work towards employment and training as well as improving other aspect of their lives.
Ruth Parker, Senior Contract and Performance Manager, Northumberland County Council, Employability and Skills commented on the programme – “My team started to work with Tutela in 2015. The aim of the pilot programme they proposed was to provide training and support to customers who had an identified Mental Health issue and reduce their barriers to employment. Steve and Cheryl from Tutela built a carefully considered step programme which included support to allow individuals to understand their own mental health and build coping strategies for the future. Each person had an agreed Person Centred Plan aimed to build their confidence and assertiveness with support in pursuing their chosen career and training needs.
I was extremely pleased with the direct feedback from the customers on The Tutela programme and one such customer was supported by them into employment with a national company after over 10 years of unemployment and a life claiming benefits.
What the customers have appreciated most about working with Tutela is their ability to listen to them and provide specialist support in the Mental Health field. The pilot has been so successful that I have extended it for another 3 months to offer specialist support to a wider range of customers.”
